چکیده

This study concerns road traffic noise in Greater Cairo, the capital and the largest city in Egypt and the eleventh biggest city in the world. Extensive measurements were carried out in 21 sites in Greater Cairo. Restrictions were introduced to improve environmental conditions including: (i) a ban on horns, (ii) a ban on horns and trucks, (iii) a ban on horns, trucks and noisy buses. Equivalent noise levels (LAeq) were measured before and after these restrictions. The equivalent noise level was considerably reduced by the bans. This shows that the town planner can use various strategies to change the traffic composition in order to achieve quieter city environments. The degree of annoyance was measured by means of questionnaire. The results showed that there was a strong relationship between road traffic noise levels and the percentage of highly annoyed respondents. # 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Partial and Total Annoyance Due to Road Traffic Noise Combined with Aircraft or Railway Noise: Structural Equation Analysis

Structural equation modeling was used to analyze partial and total in situ annoyance in combined transportation noise situations. A psychophysical total annoyance model and a perceptual total annoyance model were proposed. Results show a high contribution of Noise exposure and Noise sensitivity to Noise annoyance, as well as a causal relationship between noise annoyance and lower Dwelling satis...

Transportation noise and annoyance related to road traffic in the French RECORD study

Road traffic and related noise is a major source of annoyance and impairment to health in urban areas. Many areas exposed to road traffic noise are also exposed to rail and air traffic noise. The resulting annoyance may depend on individual/neighborhood socio-demographic factors. Nevertheless, few studies have taken into account the confounding or modifying factors in the relationship between t...

Annoyance from Road Traffic, Trains, Airplanes and from Total Environmental Noise Levels.

There is a lack of studies assessing the exposure-response relationship between transportation noise and annoyance in North America. Our aims were to investigate the prevalence of noise annoyance induced by road traffic, trains and airplanes in relation to distance to transportation noise sources, and to total environmental noise levels in Montreal, Canada; annoyance was assessed as noise-induc...
